Happy New Year 2010!
Thank you for your business
during the past year. We hope
you are enjoying your
permanent floral designs and décor.
By popular demand, here are some tips for
storing your Christmas décor-
After the beauty of the holiday, it is now time
to put away the decorations and give the new
year a fresh start. To store your new floral
designs, we recommend that you purchase
large plastic storage boxes with securely
fitting lids. Careful storage will ensure fresh-
looking decorations that will not require much
fluffing when you bring them out next year.
Garlands -
Undecorated garland can be wound in a spiral
into the containers. Decorated mantel,
banister and door garlands can be arranged in
“thirds” in a long container that is tall enough
not to crush the flowers and ribbons. Be sure
to save the ties that hold the garland on the
banisters – even better is to re-fasten them in
the same spot they came off the banister.
Numbering and creating a drawing will help
you remember in what order they were
attached. If you can, take photos you can refer
to next year.
Teardrop Swags –
Swags and accent pieces can be loosely
packed in long containers, but be careful not
to stack too many, that they crush each other.
Wreaths -
Wreath storage bags and boxes are sometimes
available. Another option is to hang your wreath
inside a closet with a plastic dry cleaner bag
covering it.
Centerpieces –
Centerpieces should either be stored in plastic
storage boxes or should be enclosed in a dry
cleaning bag or other large plastic bag. Table
garlands that do not have a container may be
hung on a nail vertically and covered, in the
same way you would store a wreath or swag.
Tree Toppers –
Your tree topper may need to be stored by itself
in a plastic storage box. You may want to stuff
tissue in the loops of the bows.
Bows –
Tree bows may be stored in a plastic container,
but be sure to stack them on top of heavier
items, or by themselves, so that they won’t need
much fluffing next year.
Outdoor Décor –
Outdoor garlands, swags and wreaths should be
brought inside to dry out and “de-humidify”
before packing them in plastic.
Freshness –
Bay leaves should help keep pests away – just
one or two per container. If you have a musty
smell when you pull your decorations out of the
attic, you can spray them with a holiday-scented
room spray (I like Claire Burke Christmas
Memories – mmm, cinnamon!).
Sources –
Boxes and storage items can be found at Home
Depot, Lowes, Target, Wal-Mart, The Container
Store.
